seachem vs oceanpure

I have tried both of these, and based on my tank results... The oceanpure seems to have more polyp extension and better colors...

I just changed my water with some seachem yesterday, and my yellow turbinaria had a little rtn overnight... ? I think it stopped, but it is wierd. All my acros are fine...

I never had that happen with either oceanpure or instant ocean...

And oceanpure is cheaper... My pinks have gotten a little duller since using seachem...

My tests are based on usage of a whole box for water changes.

Anyone else have similar results?

I heard that seachem is low in mag, I wonder if that is the culprit... but seems kinda dumb to dose it if I can use cheaper salt that has more mg in in doesnt it?

I recall OldYellerTang doing a comparison between a few salts, including Oceanpure and Seachem. The oceanpure actuually scored the lowest on Mg but did very well on Ca, alk, and extremely low PO4. I did a similar comparison a while back between Ocean Pure and Tropic Marin Pro. I don't have the exact results at hand but the Ocean Pure scored high enough to make me switch from TM. I'm finishing my second bucket and it's worked great. It always mixes up with perfectly high Ca and Alk levels and after 24 hours of mixing I add a dose of DIY Mg to boost it before my water change.

I was told that Ocean Pure will come in a "Pro" version soon so it will be interesting to see how that mixes.

I believe it was around 1100-1200. I don't test every time and when I make up water (20 gal per week) I just add a 1/2 cup of premixed Mg which originally brought the water to 1350. The premix I make up once a month using the 3 part Ca recipe found on the Chemistry forum. That recipe calls for 64 oz of Epsom salt mixed into enough water to make 1 gallon. I also dose around a 1/4 cup of Mg premix to my tank once a week and it keeps my params in the high 1300's. Currently I'm only using Epsom Salts but I'm trying to get some of that ice melt salt used back east as suggested in Randy's new 3 part recipe. Can't buy that stuff here in California :( Trying to get some people together to split a bag since shipping is the bulk of the cost.

Thank you the information above. I'm in for the group buy of Mag Flake, if you decide to order it let me know.
