Seahare

Are sea hares difficult to maintain? I saw online that they are "expert" but the LFS guy Dias they're just very sensitive and they should do fine if acclimated properly. He didn't have any sea hares I just asked him because I want one.

Sea hares are pretty easy to keep actually.

Yes they do need algea, however you can still give them nori or the veggie clip that our tangs and such eat (he won't share though!) I've even hand fed the one I had a couple times.

Just be careful not to stress them.. they do "ink" rarely which isn't a healthy thing for the tank.. my lfs only seen it happen once.

Oh and cover any overflows/powerheads.. and on the topic of those, they can't tolerate high flow reefs either, they can get blown around easily.

Crap. How do I cover the power heads. The hare was near the powerhead when I left the house. It wasn't next to it but it was around it. I'm hoping it senses the vibration or the high flow and moves away.

my sea hare inked in a 390 gallon setup... nothing happened.

it was being attacked by my cleaner shrimp (not compatible) i moved him to my sump and he has been thriving for 4 months now!

I had a seahare till last night when I returned home from my uncles funeral to find him stuck to side of the gyre. When went to remove him he inked. I think it was cuz his back was tore open and his hard inner shell was poked thru I also had him in there with 3 cleaner shrimp and they were fine he was pretty active out during the day and night I will be getting another was one of my favorites was very unfortunate

Eh, I really don't think cleaner shrimp will bother him once he's in there. Just be sure to feed the shrimp after he's added. I've seen them tackle anemones too thinking it was feeding time.

I just witnessed the shrimp get a strongy thing, poop?, out of the slug's back.

Okay, is this normal behavior for the the slug to be crawling around the tank then coming back to where it laid it's eggs? It won't stay on the side wher the algae is. Instead it is on the side where I've scrubbed it.

I had two and they were awesome, until my elegance coral ate them. Literally. I thought I had saved the one, pulled him and he inked, died within a day. Mine appeared to have the back torn open a bit but it healed up or went away after a few days. I had Emerald crabs shrimp etc and never had any issues. They are amazing with hair algae.
