seahorse birth

I have a male kuda who had 27 babies over a 48 hour period. It has now been 48 hours since the last birth but I can still see at least 10 babies in his pouch. Is he in danger? can I help him?:bounce3:

It's three days later and he still hasn't had anymore babies. I can see that most of the babies have died in his pouch and his fins are starting to turn white and fray a little. Is there a safe medicine you can use for this? Will he eventually release the babies?

It sounds like you need to do a pouch evac on him, and flush his pouch to get rid of the dead babies. I'm sorry, but I can't think of what you flush it with right now, but plain seawater would be better than nothing.
To do this you need a small syringe without the needle. Put some tank water in it, gently insert the tip into his pouch and very gently depress the plunger. Don't try to blow him up like a balloon and don't get any air in his pouch. Then very gently suck the water (and hopefully dead babies) out of his pouch. He won't like it a bit, and you may have to do it several times to get them all. It's OK to let him rest between times.
I would also place him in a QT tank for a short time, with triple sulpha, and all the live food he can eat. Hopefully someone will chime in here with the preferred medicine for pouch evacs. Let us know how it turns out.

Dosn't sound good! If you are seeing signs of infection, you need to treat it right away.

Can you actually see the fry in his pouch? I can tell when my male is pregnant, but I can't see through his pouch.

I couldn't see the babies until after he birthed most of them, but now I can see them clearly. thanks for the info. I'll try tonight and let ya'll know how it goes.
