Hello Guys

I want to share with all of you this project of mine, this is intend for keeping a couple of seahorses (H. Ingens)

basically is a little refugium conected to my main system and with a low water flow to not botter the seahorses.

I'm still waiting to my refugium become more populated of macroalgae and copepóds until I decide to introduce the seahorses

wow i had this exact idea earlier today, what are the dimensions of your tank(for the SH)?

Beautiful stand btw

Thanks, dimensions are tinny due reduced space in the stand, 9x9x12 inches for the SH refugium, but as far as I know SH are not very active swimmers. So I believe is enough

Very, very nice! I am jealous of the way this tank is inlaid. I can't even describe how wonderful that looks. Any chance of you modifying the walls on either side to give three side viewing?

Thanks. that is a very cool setup once again. Ill be following along.
What light is on the sea horse tank?

I'm using dichroic led lamps they are cheap, low electricity consuming

pretty much like these

i'm gonna see the results with this lighting and if not work I will use a 39Watt PL

H. Ingens gets up to 12" tall... a tank about 30" in height would be appropriate.

Oh yes that is what I read in seahorse.org, but I believe that is in the wild, I haven't seen any that big in captivity.

Anyway, I will look forward to see the availavilty of other smaller species in my area.

Thanks

Thanks micstarz, you mean a three side view for the SH tank? unfortunately I can't modify the walls for this due the tank stand, this was intended more like a "window" view

Soemone told me that a seahorse tank inline would cause a nutrient spike in your main reef. Any notice so far? Right now your tank is just like a fuge, so it should be removing nutes. Im curious...

Yes, that was what I meant :D

Too bad it isn't possible. In any case, it's still a very well made project and in my opinion stands out even more than the main tank!

Yes I know the SH feeding could rise my nutrient levels, that is for I have added macroalgae hoping not be too much impact, but well at least this is a project and I will see how successfull it would be with the time.

If Sea Horses are not the best to keep in there, at least I will have a nice looking refugium  and possible just keep a small goby.

yea i didnt think a few extra mysis would hurt, espiecially if the SH were in a well populated(with pods) tank

Seahorses, ideally should be eating a few times a day, and to keep a stable pod population you need a good size refugium... it's more than just a few mysis.

Thanks

Seahorsesource has captive bred, captive raised ones that are 10"+ I believe... I think you may have a difficult time finding a species of pony suitable for a 12" tall tank except for dwarves and young ponies.

Wait a minute, I made a mistake on the conversion from centimeters to inches lol.

SH refugium is 16.5 inches tall

LOL much better! That's a better height for a lot of ponies... I would still avoid the bigger species like H. Ingens though! :)
