seahorse food

Hi, I am considering getting two seahorses for my new 90L tank but am concerned about how difficult they would be to keep, especially feeding them. Is frozen brine shrimp available from pet stores or do you have to order it? How much do you spend on food per month? I would love to keep seahorses but if their food is not easily available then it may not be possible. Thanks.

I keep sea horses. All mine are eating frozen Mysis. They will eat brine, but I prefer to feed the tank the Mysis. Both of which should be readily available at your LFS..

I probably go through about 12 dollars worth a month..

First off, a 90L tank is a bit small for a pair of seahorses, especially if you aren't experienced in keeping them.
Seahorses have problems with water quality that wouldn't normally affect most other marine fish, but they can end up with bacterial infections or internal organ problems from a chemical imbalance due to water quality.
Far more seahorses perish than are successfully kept long term.
Frozen mysis is much better than frozen brine, but for me, I feed enriched live adult brine once or twice a week, with the rest of the feeding being the Hikari mysis.
You can get some seahorse basics by clicking the links at the bottom of "My Thoughts on Seahorse Keeping" written by experience keepers and probably the most respected breeder, Dan U.

Okay thanks for your replies, I will check the local pet stores for food. The article and links were interesting. If 90L was too small for a pair, could a single seahorse be kept in the tank or do they prefer company?
