Hi all, my pair of seahorses are pregnant again and I am offering the fry to anyone who wants to try their hand at raising them. I can even give you pointers as I have successfully raised 15 fry to 4 mos. from my last batch. They may arrive as soon as tomorrow and will certainly be here by the end of the weekend. PM me if you are interested. Thanks, Dawn

congratulations on your rearing success! maybe at some point in the future, i can take you up on this, but unfortunately right now i don't have the room.

Thanks Mondo. If no one wants them I will just let the tank filter them out which makes me sad but I still have the 15 juvies and it was a lot of work getting them to this point. I need a break from fry raising!

I know how you feel! I have been rearing clownfish fries. I managed to successfully raise 8 of them past meta. I think they are about 24 days old now. This morning one died for no reason.

I would love raising baby seahorse but so overwhelmed now..I have a new batch of clownfish eggs hatching this Sunday.

By the way, your seahorse babies look so cute!

Thanks! I raised 1 batch of clownfish about 6-7 years ago. You are right, it was a lot of work, so much so that I never did it again. I think I raised 7. I still have 1 of those clownfish in my tank now. I sold his parents a couple years ago. They mated twice a month as long as I had them.
My male seahorse delivered this morning. I left them in the tank to be filtered out since no one was ready to raise any.

Dawn, at some point I'd like to try again. I know mine got an infection and slowly passed. They did last till I had them on frozen brine though. I know how to take care of the infection part now, but I know my temp went too high. I'm picking up a chiller tomorrow. I'm also re-doing my tank right now. Gotta mail out the rbta's that are over-running it right now.

Hey Jesse, nice to hear from you. I'm sorry about the fry but I guess what you experienced is pretty common. Temperature can be a really big factor so I think the chiller will help tremendously. I think I had some beginner's luck, plus I am pretty sure the sanolife-mic F helped. Also when I was using Selcon to enrich bb at one point I lost 3 fry in 1 week. An experienced seahorse keeper told me to switch to all Dan's Feed, (she thought they had bacteria in the gut) and when I did I didn't lose any more. Now I have 15 juveniles that I have no idea what to do with, LOL. Only 1 has developed a pouch so I still have some time to figure that out.
I'll be happy to pass more fry along. I felt really bad yesterday letting the tank have the fry that were born but I need a break. Take care, Dawn
