SeaHorse Hex Tank

Will - you da man!

I want to come look at your frag tank. That may be something I want to try to build. I've been keeping my frags on the bottom and they don't color up very well and I don't like the bottom being clutter up.

What size holes are those at the top of the tank?

Aren't you worried about them being so close together?

Do you have anymore of the 1/8" black left out of that sheet?

I'll stop asking questions now. :)

Thanks H@arry, Your welcome to out out and look at the frag tank. I still only have Zoos in it right now But they are doing very well.. Heck they look better in the frag tank then they did in the 180.. Go figure.. Maybe this spring I'll host another meeting too.. Since I get alot of questions on my setups. We will have to have one while its warm this time.. That way the pond has more growing in it then water and fish!

Speakeraddict.. lol Not sure what size.. I just grabbed a bit out of my toolbox that looked about right.. They are probably about 1" or 25mm if I had to guess. I can check though.

Nope not at all there is about 1/4 maybe more between each hole. . I did my 60 the same way.. Its been jugging long for about a year or so. Plus the Acrylic siliconed to the back wall should help reinforce everything..

I didn't buy a Full sheet of black.. I did buy extra like 2x2 or 4x4 sheet or something like that.. But I wanted Extra I always find uses for stuff. I'm going to do John a tank like this aslo so that will take up some of it.. EPI in huntsville is a great place to get Acrylic from. Thats where I get my clear and my black from..

Hey Will,

I can arrange to have a meeting at your house anytime you want :) Actually we have an opening for March right now. We will have February meeting in Coral Reef Aquatic in late February. If not March, then how about May? I proposed a little while ago to visit another regional frag swap in Chattanooga in April in lieu of April meeting.

Update

I got the sump done.. Well for the most part I have to trim the bottem off after it drys good. I Bent the sides insted of using weldon.. I figured it would work better be more fun to haha.. Less seems to worry with. Turned out pretty good for my first Hex tank.. Since the Bends were kind of long and there was so many.. I used a Heat strip insted of my Tourch;) The Heat strip is on a strip of plywood with Fiberglass cloth for insulation. Takes a little longer for the Acrylic to get up to temp.. But Alot easier to work with.

Almost up to Temp.. I figured out a while back that at around 250F on the back side of the piece is when it bends well

The Rockwork isn't done.. I just threw a peice in from one of my other tanks to get the cycle going..The dead coral will stay in there though

Round 2 Here is the other sump I built.. This one is for Johns tank. Although I may trade him lol since This one is all but perfect. I did a much better job on my seems and bends the 2nd time around..

Looking good so far.

Is there anything you can't build......

Thanks Haha I'm still working on that whole Build a Better mouse trap thing:confused: I do have to admit a Hex tank was Very new grounds for me lol If you knotice in the first post I said I was going to "Try" and build one :)

Will

Forget the mouse trap build me a better BUBBLE trap...Micro Bubbles are just plain evil.... :mad2: ....That hex set-up looks good.

Kbmdale Bubble Traps are Very easy to make.. There are several ways to go about it.. I seen your thread in the other forum.. I also seen someone show you Melev's solution to them.. Sump baffles do wonders if they are far enough apart for the volume of water going through the sump.. Also the sump needs to be large enough for the amount of water....Playing with the drains also does wonders.. Its better to break up the outlet into the sump.. So insted of a single 1" pipe dumping 800gph have a T and have 2 outlets Or even 3.. Also Try to have slopes in your drains not drops.. Dont have the water fall a foot right before it enters the sump.. The more force the water has comming out of the pipe the more bubbles it makes in the sump.. Hope that makes since

Mary thats a Coralife 150watt Clamp on MH pendant.. haha I know its not clamped on the tank but I just wanted it cause I like the arm.. Its easy to swing up out of the way and it doesn't move around like the ones hanging on cables.. The lil wood bracket on the wall is just something I made to mount it with.. I can losen those three plastic bolts and the hole thing just lifts off that bracket. So far I really like the fixture

I just looked I guess you can't really see how its mounted.. I'll post a lil better picture of the base of the light.. It seem very will made..

Will

The light looks really nice. Where did you get it from? also where did you get your tank from?

The dead coral looks nice too....if dead coral can look nice..lol

That is the best looking sump I have seen so far considering the tank. What are you going to run in the primary chamber of the sump?

Mary, I got the Tank and light from John Newby. Haha I know it was a lil odd to put a Dead coral in a tank.. But Seahorses need something to hige to.

Thanks for all the complements. I can't believe how much feed back I've gotten on this setup..

edwar050 The right side of the sump is for my skimmer. Its a ASM Mini Skimmer. The left side is where my return pump and heater sit.

Thought I'd post a small updat gang.. I got the Rockwork done a while back.. I also added 4 horses.. Two mustangs and Two Redi's. I plan on taking the powerhead out.. But I need to get a larger Return pump.. I started building a power center lastnight.. Should have it done tonight if I get time to work on it.. It will be alot like the one on my 180.. I think there are some pictures of that one in my Gallery.. I'll post some pictures of it when I get it done! Anyway here are some PIctures of the tank now!!

Once again it really shows that you know what your doing and have done your research. I like your 60 cube and bowfront also. That OM 8 way looks really cool. I love it when the sea horses feed, very cool.
