Seahorse Shots

I wish I had a macro lens for these shots, but I tried to make the best of what I had (the stock 18-55mm lens my Canon Rebel XSi came with).

They are Hippocampus erectus, by the way.

Hope you don't mind Octo, but here's a little help. On the first pic, I removed some of the out of focus on the top, and some off the right. A little brightning and sharpening in PS.

And for the second picture...

How about that? (the cropping made it zoom in and decrease the resolution)

PS - I am new to DSLR and editing pictures so don't worry about talking down to me, I can handle the criticism ;)

the PS work doesn't need to be so drastic, IMO. The photo is pretty darn good to begin with, not a lot of work needs to be done. Here's my take on it.

For what its worth I do photo editing jobs from time to time for various sources... Not a pro by any means, but I'm not a novice either. I just brought out the whites, made your coralline stand out a bit more and kept the dark background. Like I said, your photo is pretty good to begin with.
