Seahorses in nanos

Since my 24g Aquapod is arrivng this Tuesday, I am planning my fish list (using water from my established 55g, dont worry). Now, I am wondering if I could get an H. Reidi seahorse and have it with some other fish and the corals I want (some SPS, mostly LPS and zoos). My LFS sells them already eating frozen Mysis, and I have always wanted a seahorse. So I was just wondering if 1 or maybe 2 would be OK in a 24g reef with fish. Thanks

I do not think sea horses would work out in your tank.

First, sea horses need a tank with a temperature of about 70-74. Anything higher than that will be a threat if long term.

Also, LPS are a huge no no for sea horses. The sweeper tentacles can kill an adult sea horse because they are very sensitive.

Also, sea horses love to hitch on things. So they would find a nice acro and probably destroy the tissue sooner or later.

Also, if you ever get sea horses... they are very social creatures... so you should always get atleast 2.

It is best to have a tank designed around the sea horses, not the sea horse designed around the tank.

guy that sits next to me at work is a sea horse freak so i can tell you this.
A 30G tall would be the smallest you would want to go with stocking a pair of horses and dwarfs are better in a 10 or less tank.
like Jordan mentioned you do not want toxin producing corals in with them.
for hitching you could get some nice macro algae for that purpose and still have a bit of style in the tank. Some mushrooms, macro algae, and other harmless corals would be a nice looking tank.
My cube mate has a prego Brazilian male about to pop any day now.

Do the seahorses a favor and try something else. Very demanding for a newbie and there are great forums available to study before jumping in. Most of these little guys should be left in ocean Buy only tank raised and they are not cheap.

Well the ones at my LFS are tank raised. But I guess I will have to pass on the seahorse. It would have been cool, but I will just have to get another tank just for seahorses then!
