Seahorses in the refugeum?

Cancer Sucks
I admit I don't know anything about seahorses, but I'm reading about them now everywhere I can because I'm considering keeping them in my fuge. It has super low flow and my focus is nutrient export, not pod supplementation so I'm not concerned with them eating all the pods. The only issue I'm seeing so far is temperature. I'm reading they like lower temperatures, like 75. I don't know if I can do it yet, but I'm going to resarch the subject.

Do any of you keep seahorses?

I've done a few types. Probably erectus or reidi would be the best as far as temp and hardiness go. They prefer a tank that is at least 2.5X as tall as they are. Here is a good article from Pete G at Ocean Rider that goes over a lot of environmental conditions for happy seahorses. You know it's a good article- it cites yours truly ;)

Ooh ouch, I think I just hurt my arm patting myself on the back too vigorously!

Thanks Olin, I'll read that article after work.

I guess other than the temperature issue, I have to ask myself if I want to have to dump all that food in the refugeum when it's purpose is nutrient export.

Yes, temp affects health, your in SV so you have a better chance then here in Tucson. I noticed when I kept them they got more bacterial and the like problems after 78-80. That was years ago, before tank raised, so they might be more tolerant now. They are cool to watch and worth the effort.

Right now I'm keeping my tank at 80.8, but I guess I could turn down the chiller to get it under 80. Nobody on the seahorse forum seems to keep them above 75, so that's out of the question. I'll see if I can find anyone who keeps them at 80.

The only other thing would be all the frequent feedings. That's probably what will keep me away from seahorses.

I have a perfect Seahorse tank available for sale If anyone needs one, Its a 25tall (24w * 12.5d * 22t)
It has the stand and canopy as well if anyone needs it.

iv kept kudas up to 80 for some time with no ill effects
main thing is that any flow into overflows will suck them over or trap them into so be careful with the flow if u have any questions i have a little experience with sh feel free to pm me

breakn, Thanks for the help. I'm going to hold off for now, but I may come back to the idea.
