5 to 7 years is accepted as normal.
Your milage may vary. Many fish have exceptions that go far past the norm.
In an experiment Domestic Bettas that were kept in 5 gal tanks each and excersized everyday lived over 9 years and were still spawning at 9 whereas the generally excepted lifespan is 2.5 years. I had a pair of Betta anabatoides that lived 14 years.
