sealab #28 calcium blocks?

has anyone ever used these in their tank if so what were the results. It has been brought to my attention that they slowly disolve and keep calcium at 420ppm?

Yeah they aren't any good.

Do nothing for Alkalinity either.

I didn't like them and started to use C-Balance with far better results.

Go with a two part additive or just use kalk for top-off.

Thanks for the input thats what I expected to hear. Randy you are one of the most helpful people I have never met.

my friend uses them in his small tank, its like an 18 gallon i think, he said they work great, i think on smaller tanks they help a bit.

I've been using them, but I won't buy them again. They keep my calcium around 400, but I don't have a heavy calcium use load. They don't work well for the alk or buffering ph.

I'm new to Reef Central, but I've been a reefer for over 6 years. I use a calc reactor to maintain my pH and calcium levels and I've been using Sea Lab's No.28 supplement for 6months on a 240gal reef with great results. I don't believe Sea Lab claims to boost calcium levels nor do they claim to buffer pH. They actually recommend that No.28 is used in conjunction w/ their kH buffers such as their No.14.

Although they do claim to maintain the pH and calcium levels once its already reached stable levels.

What I use No.28 for is to replace magnesium, strotium, iodine, silion, zinc and other about a dozen other trace elements. So I figure the No.28 replaces all the bottles of supplements that had used to replenish trace elements. So its still pretty good since it only dissolves the the trace elements are depleted in your tank. So if your tank does not have enough trace elements it will dissolve faster until it reaches appropriate saturation and when your tank has enough trace elements, it won't dissolve and won't cause trace element toxicity.

So this is just my opinion through my experience.

same thing as the hbh balance bricks which claims to disolve as the chemicals are needed..

( the bricks will disolve is water soaked with bionic with no bio load . )
i wouldent use them

SeaLab #28

SeaLab #28

I am using them and have seen improvement. However Alkalinity is still maintained using Red Sea #1 powder. Also, Magnesium needs to be watched. Other than that, they are a benefit too me as I don't add trace elements and Iodine and Sr or Ca any more. My LFS uses them on their coral tanks with great success. Why all the negative reviews here I'm not sure. They are not a happy pill to fix all, but sure make my life easier? Hmmm, dead fish? Must be overdosing (although they say you can't) or something else?

Don't know about sealand, the aquarium product, but loved the Sealab cartoon series on Adult Swim:

You better check under the sea
Cause that is where you'll find me
Underneath the

Sealab, Underneath the water
Sealab, At the bottom of the sea
