Ok so reading the duplex fuge post was fun and really has me thinking of other ways to add biodiversity to my tank. I currently have a fuge with slow-moderate flow with rubble and macros, i want to use a small hAng on and have a few idea ive seen or thought of...i wanna get as creative as possible...
1 hang on fuge with rubble, powered by aqualifter sucking water from the bottom of the tank, rite above the sand. This will have a Very low flow. Im assuming a ton of detritus will build up so the point would be an easy way to remove the detritus buildup at the bottom of this fuge
2 Dark hang on fuge, with low flow...im very interested in what type of life can form or be put in a dark. This may or may not be beneficial but would b cool to see happens, if it will or wont and biodiversity.
3 this is kinda a stupid little idea of some airline tubing with water running through it, coiled or spread out under a light... Basically if ya have a aqualifter or something laying around just pump water through a bunch of tubing under a light so it grows algae...basically same idea as a turf scrubber just with watever algae grows and when its all nasty just through it out..petsmart had tubing on clearance for 1$...i guess u can use larger tubing and a larger pump also or just add this on to a random already functioning device like a reactor, just the return of the reactor would b alot of clear tubing with a light lollll...just a thought
4. A rising sand bed, simulating a beach. I have no idea what this would do if anything...there would be a dsb where one side is say 6" and the other side is above the water level...i would assume the dry sand would eventually get wet but if the flow is semi low who knows maybe it will stay in place..the sand above water level may be wet from absorbing water beneath it i dont kno...regardless would wet sand thats not actually in water have any benefits ....
5 Im just curious about what can be added to a "standard" fuge...what type of critters can i buy or add to a fuge that will add to my biodiversity...i dont have a uv filter so i wouldnt add aiptasia...i have tons of pods, worms and a few pinaple sponge things but would like more
I am b no means an expert on reef tanks lol..i didnt read the entire post on the duplex fuge so i dont kno if they mentioned what type of life they can add...would b fun to try some whacky ideas i probably will bit if anybody sees problems with any of these ideas where it can negatively effect my tank feel free to let me kno lol also any other cool ideas would b nice
