Sedra 3500 problem

When I unplug my skimmer to clean and plug it back in, the pump will not kick on. To get it going, all I have to do is put my hand over the input of the pump and it starts it right up.

This is getting to be old and I'm wondering if there is a quick fix for this problem. I've tried soaking and running in vinegar, scrubbed it out and nothing has helped.

Why not just try a new impeller as this should remedy the problem.

It could be that air getting stuck in the impeller chamber this is occuring only if you hear the impeller gravitate

a new impeller is probably what I need but before going out and buying one, I was wondering if anyone ran into this before and had the quick fix.

It's def. not cavitating.
