OK, the Sedra on one of my ASM G3's finally bit the dust. Replacing the skimmer's out. Looking for suggestions on a replacement/upgrade.

Bubble Blaster, but why not another Sedra?

This one's been running for a quite a while, so I'm not in a rush to change. But the one on the G3 in the lobby at work's been swapped 3 times in 3 years. Last year, I bought a Sicce for a big first-generation Euroreef I'm still using (3 systems in the fishroom) after that Sedra seized up, and it really rocks, but may be a bit too much pump for a G3. Really just looking for suggestions especially from folks that have been down this road.

I went with the Sicce and the red Aquamaxx needlewheel. It's a remarkable little pump. The stock purple needlewheel won't restart on its' own for whatever reason. The Aquamaxx is flawless and really is an upgrade. The smaller pump even reduces the footprint of the skimmer by almost two inches. The difference in the quantity and concentration of skimmate from the Sedra is just remarkable.
Since I started this thread, I actually had a second Sedra just quit on my prop system, and went the exact same route. There's a third G3/Sedra sitting in the stand of the 180G that's going in the family room. You can guess what direction that Sedra's headed in.
The only real down side is that these pumps draw a LOT of air and the inlet can get noisy. The first one I installed actually slurrped so loud it could be heard on the third floor of my house. It was really horrible. I built silencers for both skimmers that cost absolutley nothing. If you decide to go this route send me a PM and I'll send you a step by step. It takes about 10 minutes to build and isn't unsightly or bulky.
In defense of the Sedra a needlewheel upgrade may have produced similar results. I honestly can't say since I really don't have time to experiment these days. In both cases the Sedra just quit and would've needed replacing and since the Sicce/Aquamaxx combo was so impressive and shrank the footprint it was the way I went and will go a third time.
