Hey I recently purchased a new clown and he looks healthy. He's eating and swimming around. However when you look closely you can see his skeleton. Is this normal?
He may look healthy but if you can see his skeleton I doubt he is. You should never be able to see the skeleton on a healthy fish unless its one of those glass clear fish.
As long as he is eating I would continue to feed him as much as he wants as often as needed till you can no longer see his skeleton and he is healthy fat.
If you can look down from above and see were the sides midway down the fish gets skinny he needs to eat more. However if you dont notice any change in a few days of decent feedings he may very well have internal parasites.
As for long stringy poop does it look normal or discolered? Some fish it doesn't break loose right away but to me all fish poop looks stringy so without pictures its hard to say.
If it is parasites I would remove the fish and qt him as it can spread to others in the tank.
That's how my clown looked, indeed with internal parasites. Post this in the fish disease section, you'll get great advice on meds. I personally used Metrodinozole in the food and two treatments of Prazi once it was confirmed.
