Seeking a Powerhead

I just recently installed my first tank and got everything up and running (this past weekend)

However, I do not have a powerhead yet, and I am looking to get one. However, the question I have, is I am looking for a mounting system that is similar to the vortechs (magnetic power), so that way I can hide the powerhead's power out of the line of sight (that way my wife can't complain about it).

However, as I recently just spent quite a bit of money on this tank already, I am not looking to drop this amount of money yet on the vortechs. Is there any viable options out there? How has everyone else handled the wiring?

The tank is a 30g Long, and hopefully will have coral after I get some lights.

The design (magnetic coupling) of the Vortech is patented.. So you won't find another like it.
Pony up or don't :)

They are posted "used" quite often around here but most ask insane pricing them IMO

Hydor Koralias are just fine.. They just take up a bit more space.

That is what I was afraid of, I actually kind of figured that as well.

In addition, is there such a thing as having too much flow?

I haven't seen a marketplace around here, I wonder if it is because I am a new member?

Yea I believe you need a certain amount of posts before you can view classifieds.

Take a look at Tunze. They have a new ph available that might fit your bill. Small yet practical. At 30 gallons you aren't going to need flow that will blow the sies out. Tune is worth a peek IMO.

So to give everyone an update, I went to a local reef expo and picked up a hydro 1500. I figured that most people want a high turn over rate, so this would help get a high level.

Well, I think this pump killed my fish. It was hard to determine if he liked this high flow. At first he was timid of it, and hide. But after a while he got slightly above the direct line of flow and just hung around there. Well, after a while I took a sample of water to test , and it just have spooked the fish, as he then bolted from one side of the tank and hit the glass on the other side at full speed. He went a total of nearly 30 inches at full speed. This resulted in his head being bruised and rapid breathing. I am guessing he had some sort of internal bleeding as he shortly died as few hours later.

So, I guess my question here is was the velocity of the stream too much? Is the pump itself too much? If so, how do people get these high turnover rates.

Currently the power head was on the back side pointing down the tank to create the most flow over the distance of the tank.

Is it possible that the fish was just not acclimated to swimming with the current and simply over estimated how fast to swim away?

Any insite would be appreciated.

1 of these. all you need. :D its cheap and it works.

Man, I really like those pumps. I like the wave functions that are built in. I wish I had seen these before I got the hydor 1500. I am still thinking about maybe picking up one of these.

I am still uncertain, if I have too much velocity from the hydor 1500. If this was the case, How would I go about slowing it down some?

Well, after some addition reading, I ended up ordering the rw-8s.

Hopefully this will be calm enough for my tank and not freak the fish out. Now I am just left with a hydor 1500 that has only been turned on for a few hours going to collect dust...

Ha, for some odd reason it won't let me edit that post...

I meant for a single rw-8. Not multiple.

With the controller, I figured it would be a good buy and I could even turn it down some.

I was thinking of how to use the 1500 hydor, and I figured it would be best to use it for a saltwater mixer... I mean, what else can I do? The other option is also to keep it in the tank and have it pointed at nothing but a wall, but would that be even beneficial?
