Seio powerhead idea

I have an idea and want someone elses opinions. I'm in the process of figuring out what to do for flow in my 75g, that will be maily SPS. I'm leaning toward 2 Seio 1100s. The general concensus seems to be not to run them on a wave timer, as the constant switching will lead to pump failure rather quickly. If it wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg to go with two 6000 streams on a multi-controller, I would, I just can't justify the ~$700.

I've read that, if I were to do two 6000s in my 75, Roger at the Tunze forum suggested that they be switched at 6 hour intervals, to simulate the changing tides.

If I were to be running an Aquacontroller jr with two Seio 1100s, does anyone think it would be all to harmfull to have them switch every 6 hours or so? They would be in the back corners of the tank, so the left one would be on for about 6 hours, then both, then the right, rinse and repeat. It should be a little easier on the pumps rather than constantly switching, don't you think? And a little more natural than just constant flow.

Let me know your opinions on this please! Thanks!

your theory/idea sounds really great, although i have two 1500's in my 100 gallon in each opposite corner on constantly with no problems and my acro's seem to like it...hope this helps.

THe problem still remains with them not restarting when shut off.

I think it's a bit risky, even though it's not the cost of a Tunze, it's not the quality either. They are good pumps, no question, I use them. But I woulden't risk 100+ dollars in pumps to somthign known with reliability problems.

But, thats just me.

That's true, I forgot about the startup problems. I'll just put the 2 1100s in there and run them 24/7.

I think you would be happier with 2 1500's even 2 2600's. I have a 3 ft 70 gallon mixed tank with 2 1500's and a ssb.

Thats the next thing I was thinking about. Are the 1500s alot bigger than the 1100? I will mount them like a tunze making that mod I found somewhere here, and I know the Seios are big already. Do you have any pics of your tank DrBDC? I have a 1" sand bed of ~3mm aragonite, I don't want to be blowing that around too much.

go with more. consider 2x1500, or even 2600s -- you can always dial them back, and they barely cost me.

please trust these suggestions, as we've all gone with too little flow, only to drop an additional $70 on more pumps.

Alright, as long as they can be dialed back. I wasn't sure about that. Then I'll go with 2 1500s. I think the 2600s would be just too much of an eyesore in a four foot tank.

Here's a pic, remember this is a 3 ft tank.

They are kinda big, but I suppose I can live with it. Either that or do one Seio 1500 and a Tunze 6000 on a controller. Bah, I can never decide on anything without looking at every angle of the subject.

I have decreased the size alot since then by removing the big square above them and supergluing the swivel bracket right to a mag float. It helped out a lot.

What size mag float did you use? I just decided in the last few minutes to just go with the 1500s and be done with it. Otherwise the 500 watts of MH lighting will have to wait longer.

Make the investment in the Tunze's. You know it's what you really want. If you're in the hobby for the long term you won't regret it. Start with one if two at once is too big a financial hit. IMHO
Cheers
(this hobby is expensive, and I appreciate how it can be a difficult decision to make the big purchases, trust me I struggle with them too, but too often when I have gone with the cheap solution first I later ended up going back and getting what I should bought in the first place)

If you wait a couple more months, there is a new small high volume pump being distributed by icecap. They are really cool looking too but will probably be as expensive as tunze's.

I've read somewhere that their will be a controller for the Seio's (1100 and up) sometime in the near future. Anyone else hear this?

It was supposed to be out last fall so maybe any day? I haven't heard a word since late last summer.

Interesting, do you have a link to some info on these?
