Seio

I have been doing some research on them and i have found its hit or miss some people say they are the best things ever other people say they suck so i don't know. I would say thought the good out ways the bad.

One problem that seems to be the only and most common is when they are new not restarting. The clearence inside them is so tight when new they somtimes take a liitle nudge to get going. But they say after a month or two it goes away

I have one (a Seio) and find it moves water great, in a wider area than the MaxiJet, but feel it is a bit large to look at. I also noticed last week that Marine Depot is now carrying magnetic powerhead holders for Seio, Tunze and Maxi-Jet powerheads, as opposed to the suction cups. What a great idea, although a little pricey! Saves some bracket room.

I just super glued a mid sized cleaning magnet to the suction cup power head holder after removing the suction cups. My powerheads haven't moved or fallen since.

I like mine a lot. I've had 2 1500s for over a year and haven't had any restart issues. I've got a Tunze 6060 on the tank too and can't tell much difference in the pumps over all. Actually the seios are easier to position/direct than the Tunze.
fwiw I've got a 620 and an 820 the same age that work fine too.
Mine are modded to hang on the back rim so they don't need the suction cups but a magnetic mount would be nice if you want to run them deeper in the tank.

The controller should be out this month. It will control 2 pumps but rumor is it'll run ~$200.00 and isn't very "controllable" :eek2:

You could always go with the new Vortex, from what I hear they promise to be the holy grail of powerheads.
Ron
Do you mean the VorTech? It does look to be a new holy grail of powerheads but it's a little spendier than a seio don't ya think
VorTech $345.00 vs Seio 2600 $74.00

Right now I'm keeping my eye on the Polario. Not as impressive as a VorTech but might have possibilities for us cheap reefers :D

The Vortechs will be coming out with a controller, & I believe they are positioning themselves to be a rival to the Tunze.

I don't know it's got a feature that makes it well worth the price to me, 24hour emergency battery backup is something that is way over due. If it is as good as they say it will give Tunze a serious run for the $$$. Plus the optional wireless controller feature will also make those with a desire to get serious chaotic flow from several powerheads try it out. It's been said, you get what you pay for in this crazy hobby, if this thing gets proven it will be well worth it IMO. I can see great uses for it in huge tanks and multiple tanks being run by a programmable wireless controller wow, enough said :)

Does anyone carry the Seio locally?

I am running 2 closed loops with OMs and was thinking about removing 1 of them (the 4 way) and just using a Y instead on full time from an external pump, compensating with a Seio in the center of the tank where the other 2 outlets from the OM currently are.

I did not see much about power, rather heat, know wattage of 2600?

yeah, that is a pretty nice feature. The reason I went for the Tunze was because I got a good deal on them & I got a last generation controller, all for a very good price. The controller & the model Streams I got are likely far more than I need for my 90. However it offers me the flexibility to use them on SPS or LPS as time passes. If I was interested in just laminar flow, I think the Seio would be the way to go.

I like my Seios. I did a mod for mounting too. I never had a restarting problem. Best for the $ in my opinion.

1500's ar the biggest my supplier has at the moment. As far as quality goes, I have 2 1500's in my display for about 9 months now w/ absolutely no problems at all,and from all that I have sold I have yet to have any returns or problems as of yet (knock on wood) Great pumps for the money IMO. I do make a modified hang on bracket for mine and all that I sell. They work great as long as you don't need it deep in the tank.

I got a very good deal on mine and still consider it garbage, Just haven't gotten around to pulling it out yet. I guess it is better to use it than not at all. But I plan on getting a maxi jet when I restack my rock and this one will go in the 12 gallon nano

820 and that is about as big as I would say it should be rated for. JME.

I do not know so much about the SEIOs, I am hoping the heat is not too much. - 34W on a 1500............a Mag 5 is about 45W, seems good.

Mary,

I have never seen a SEIO working but if it really pushes 820 g/hr, it seems as though it would look like a Hurricane in a 12g Nano.

Perhaps 1500 would be enough for me. Are they adjustable, way over rated, very soft flow?

barely feel the flow even directly in front of the output and within an inch of the pump. So I can't tell that it does anything. To wide of an output to do give any flow in the 90 even on the top of the back glass. doesn't even move the xenia that are directly in front of it.

Are you running it with the 90 output? I also forgot to add that I remove all the removable housing from the pumps so that it pulls in from the sides and exhausts straight out the front of the pump. It shows this option on the side of the box, coralreefer actually showed it to me first. Without the outer box removed it cuts the flow down way too much.

I didn't have any temp increase when I added two 1500s in the 220.
In the 20H I replaced a MJ600 and a MJ900 with a 620 (later a 820) and dropped the temp 2 degrees. Probably cause the MJs run hot though.

I use a 820 as the only flow in a 20 gallon and the water movement is perfect for this tank IMO.
If I had sand and/or hadn't gotten a good deal on this pump I'd still be running a 620. It did a great job but left dead spots on the bottom.

The output of the 1500 and the 6060 (1600/gph) feel about the same so I don't think they are over rated. The output flow is a little wider on the seio.
You'd probably be fine with a 1500 or you can adjust the flow down on a 2600.
