Selling my lighting

cool!
I ordered my lighting yesterday and the fixture is shipped and the tracking shows it will be here today :)

jallard, how did you like this light, the MH that is. the 120 upgrade is going to be a while and i really need to upgrade from the 130watt PC's on my 50 gallon. My tank is horrible for chosing lighting because it is only 30" long. I think i am going to go with a 150watt or 250 watt pendant to hold me over.

i got it narrowed down to

Gary, i am all for T5's over MH. I was considering that fixture but wasnt sure if that would be much of an increase in lighting over my current 2X65watt Power Compacts. The dimensions of my tank are 30" Long, 20.5" high, and 18" wide.

What bulb configuration would you consider. My tank is mostly softies, but have some LPS, wouldnt mind adding some Monti Caps, and a clam. Would this be sufficient. I know you cant compare a watts/gallon with T5's, but what would you compare the 96watts of T5's too? Also, what would be a good bulb configuration?

the clam question is the only one I can't give a good answer on. I have a couple of clams under t5's but my bulbs are overdriven on my 125. for softies and lps I would go with a couple of ati aqua blue specials, a true actinic & a blue plus. But talk to Greg at reefgeek he usually has really good advice.

I am running 4 54w bulbs on a 75 gal which is about the same depth and its allot of light.

you could do retro and run six bulbs but I am not sure you would need to.

Thanks Gary, i will email greg at reef geek. I am just concerned because it doesnt seem like 96 Watts of T5 HO's will be much of an improvement from my current fixture of 130watt Power Compacts.

according to your website you have 4X54watt T5's that are overdriven, i am pretty sure that my tank is the same dimension as yours, but yours is 18" longer. I kind of want to stay away from a canopy for now, so retros are out of the question for now. Do you know of any companies that make a 6X24watt fixture?

Misty's 75 has 4 normal driven t5's on it we just removed the pc's and put the second set of t5's huge difference in the amount of light.

Maybe a single halide would be your best bet it is hard to say without having a good comparison.

thanks again Gary. I just talked to Tom at Aquatinics and he said they plan on releasing a 5X24 watt fixture within the next few months, i think that will be my best bet. Gives me a little time to save up that extra cash as well.
