Sensor placement concern

The difference in my sump's water level from when the return pump is turned on (normal conditions) to when it is turned off (maintenance, power failure etc.) is greater than the length of the sensor probe. That is, if I position the sensor so that the tip is submerged 1" under the water level when the return pump is on, the entire sensor (including the connection to the cable) would be submerged when the return pump is off.

The manual states:
"Under no circumstances should the connection between the electrode and its cable be immersed in water."

Am I understandning the manual properly? Is it saying that in my situation I cannot place the sensor probes in my sump?

Thanks,
Ken

Assuming that's an Elos system you have, I guess you won't want the probes in the main display. I don't even want them in my el cheapo All Glass tank. But would it be possible to start thinking of fabricating a small platform (with holes for probes) that floats? A 6 or more inch change in sump level doesn't leave you alot of options.

I have not got that far in my hookup yet. However, read here on RC of someone using a piece of flat styrofoam as a probe holder. Once the probe depth is set, you don't have to worry about how much the sump rises. The styro goes with it.

My sump rises about 5" when the pumps are off, so I will be in a similar boat as you.

Michael, Matthias,

Can you comment on what the issue is with connection between the electrode and its cable getting wet?
