September 23rd
Sunday 1pm - 4pm

I don't have any topics planned, but I was looking around and I do have a few tanks that could be drilled. Maybe someone can bring a glass drill bit and we can demo how to drill a glass tank?! Anyone have a kit? I have never done it, but I have a good basement for it and a few unused tanks that we could drill. I think it would be a cool thing for many to see or try.

"Testing our Test Kets"

I would like everyone to bring test kits of all kinds. Expired or not, let's test the tests! My tanks can be the test subjects for everyone to compare their results.

We will collect the results from all the kits and I will chart and post them for all to see. I read they did this over at advanced aquarist and it was really cool.

We can discuss:

Techniques for performing tests

What tests are good/bad

Check if your getting accurate results when compared to others.

See how another brands tests are done, easier or harder then your own.

See which tests have an expiration date for a reason and which don't matter.

Are we even doing the test right?

Other topics can be:

What are we testing for? Why? What should it be?

Really hope many can make it, we will have at least chips, dip, soda, cookies etc...

Hey Steve, I imagine everyone is still in the midst of the summer hangover. The boards seriously slow down over the summer, but usually pick up in late September. As for the meeting I unfortunately cannot make it, my son's Soccer game is the exact same time. :(

Have a cookie for me :)

Steve - I'll be there. Can bring my test kits. And can also bring a glass drilling kit. Do you have a tank that needs drilling? Or one we can practice on?

Yes, that would be great! I do have a tank that can be drilled and if something happened to it... It was free so who cares!! hahaha :celeb1:

Thanks!

Cool. I can bring all the drilling stuff, including plumber's putty. But we're going to have to have water flowing over the drilling area. That means a source of water - even if it's just someone with a cup dipping into a water bucket and pouring water over the drill bit.

And while the plumber's putty will help control where the water goes, it will have to go somewhere, whether that's onto the grass (because we're in your yard) or into a bucket or something. And the water flowing off will not be clean water. It will be filled with powdered glass. Nothing you can cut yourself on. But not clean water either.

Ah... one more thing. I'll bring an electrical cord. But we'll need an electrical outlet. Depending on the glass, drilling holes in a tank can wear down the battery of a consumer level cordless drill. So I'll bring the plug-in variety.

Hey guys- it was a pleasure meeting you! I learned a lot for my first meeting. Looking forward to my glass drilling future!

Thanks. Was fun! I do enjoy drilling tanks. And everyone got a turn popping a hole in a tank - thanks to Steve volunteering a tank that we could punch holes in.

Thanks Steve

Thank you for bringing your kit over! It was fun and now I have a ton more confidence about drilling a tank! Thanks again!
