Sequence Dart plumbing help, leaking

Well, being paranoid, I used both. 4 or 5 wraps of the white teflon tape, then goop it up with the pipe dope (paste). Both the tape and the paste are cheap enough cost wasn't a factor. No leaks for me.

The paste is better than the tape for many reasons:

fewer leaks, easier to apply, you will break fewer pump housings ( trust me ).

If you overtorque a fitting into a pump housing you risk cracking it. With the paste you have less chance of cracking things.

Do NOT use both or you are providing multiple surface to surface interfaces that actually increases the chance of a leak.

Also dbrown - you should have had pipe unions on both sides of the pump between the pump & the valve. They are there so it is simple to remove the pump. Without them how will you clean the pump? My DART CL requires cleaning about every other month I can remove the pump in 2 minutes with about 2 cups of water on the floor.

well darn it, i used both already. but then i have union on both side so if this doesnt work, ill try paste alone.

i added the paste to the tape 12hrs ago but the paste is still kinda soft and not completely dry.

How long do i need to wait for the teflon paste and the PVC cement?

I had similar issues with my two Darts and teflon tape. I then used Rectorseal T plus 2 (can be found at HD or Lowes). It is a teflon enriched pipethread sealant. This has worked fine. By the way...it does not have to dry...in fact it never will. If you go to the manufacturer's website you can pull the product data sheets. They will tell you it is basically inert and is fine for saltwater.

Also be sure that your pump case did not split along the seam. I had one that was damaged when shipped and had to replace it. It would not stop leaking....then I looked closer and saw the split along the seam. The manufacturer was great thru this process and had me a replacement in less than a week.
