serious dinos algae problem

I tried blackout for 3 days, it didnt work. I tried then a blackout for 5 days, it didnt work. Then 7 days, didnt work. At last 10 days. It finally worked. I lost 1 or 2 corals, but I think they would have been ok, if it werent for all the previous attempts. I dosed h2o2 and wrapped the tank to make it as dark as possible. Also performed a 50% water change each time.

Blackouts if done properly will not harm, you might see some fading but corals will color up pretty fast IME. I beat mine without using H2O2, the key was being very aggressive and zero laziness.
This is what I did:
- Stop water changes for about 8-10 weeks, as they seem to fuel them.
- Blackout for 5 days with a metallic curtain, zero light in the system (tank, sump, etc). I added an airstone to help with oxygenation, I'm sure the skimmer was enough but I wanted to be safe.
- Raise pH slowly dosing kalk
- Used large amounts of GFO, replacing it every other day for 2 week and then weekly for 2 months
- After the blackout the photo period was shorten and ramp up slowly every other week.
- Wet skimming

This is one of the most annoying things you can get in your tank. If you really have dinos don't spend money in a cleaning crew until you get rid of them, as stated above some dinos will kill your snails.

THIS!!

NO WATER CHANGES!!

New salt mix is nothing but fuel for dinos - all you're doing with a water change is feeding them.

On top of what ganjero posted - suck them out daily (at the height of their growth in the day) into a filter sock and re-use the water.

Peroxide dosing did help me in the past as well. Took about 2 to 3 weeks after I identified what it was to get it under control - then they were gone.

Be aware - peroxide dosing will very quickly spike your O2 levels in the tank, then they will drop very rapidly, then equal itself back out. Some soft corals hate it - zoanthids especially always close up for about 20 - 30 mins, then open back up. Doesn't appear to cause any harm or anything, but they don't like it.

Just try the peroxide. I didnt want to but got to the point I felt lile I had nothing to lose with more and more corals starting to die. I had a small case of dinos but it liked certian corals for some reason. I tried it worked very well so far im 2 weeks no signs of dinos. I did start to see some diatoms but 1 good siphoning they were pretty much gone. No my tank looks happy happy.

does running carbon make it worse? and why does Dinos kill coral? that could explain why a few of my sps arent doing very well
