serpent star standing up?

Have you ever seen this behavior? It happened when I turned on my protein skimmer and magnum filter, he crawled up on a rock and is "poised" with his head in the air, kinda looks like hes hunting for a fish? Maybe he's just happy to have some oxygen down there.. is this unusual?

Here is a picture... he normally just hides under a rock (like 99.9% of the time)

Hi,

I have heard they do that so they can trap a creature to eat it.
My serpent stars does it once in a while.

Mine does that from time to time, looks lick he's climbing the glass, does a lap around the tank and disappears again. I have had mine for 1.5 yrs so I would guess its not a bad thing.

I had an episode a few months ago where all my serpent stars were standing up like that. The miniature ones in my tank, literally all of them stood up like that. They weren't trapping food, but were releasing a crap load of eggs and sperms. Yours could be doing the same thing. Lasted for I say about 2-3 minutes then, they all went back down and hid from me. Should have taken pics or videos or something.
