Set up the classroom reef

I set up the classroom nano reef in my wifes classroom today. Jen gave them all a chance to come over and watch me work on it and they had a million questions, I love to watch and listen to the kids once the tank is up and running, especially the ones that are underpriviledged it is great to see their reactions. I gave them a little science lesson on then working of a reef but just didn't have enough time but maybe at least one of these kids will realize the need for conservation. It had already cycled here at home just moved it to the school so next week I am going to talk to the kids some more and pick out our fish and frag some of my softies and GSP and take it to them. One of her students grandparents owns three of the local car dealerships so I may go beg for some upkeep funds since I once worked for them as a mechanic and left on very good terms and have known them for 22 years maybe they will give some for the tank. But anyway I always enjoy doing this for these kids.:fun5:

You know I work in the education field and I think this is a GREAT idea! A few things to consider though are how it will distract the students from the curriculum and instruction (especially the students with AD/HD). The novelty and beauty of it might prove too much for the students to focus. But, you could place it in an area where it cannot be seen without permission from the teacher (around a corner or a screen of some sorts). Also you can be a privelage that the teacher can give to her students and can be a reward for students with behavioral issues (instead of office referrals!). I think it's a great idea because you never know what will influence a child's life, maybe one will become a marine biologist!

I took them some GSP and a candy cane today also bought them a yellow tell blue damsel and a three striped damsel. The kids are excited.
