Settin' up a frag tank...

Well, I just renewed my MTRC membership and now I'm settin' up another tank. I thought I was losin' interest, but I guess this is just a habit you can't kick.

I had a big sheet of the egg crate left over from when I made a few small "magfloat racks". I decided I'm gonna setup a 29 gal tank to hold frags or other corals I don't want in my main tank.

This is what I came up with for my 29 gal...

I was thinkin' about addin' some crate to the bottom that way I could stack some smaller pieces of live rock inside the rack. That would keep the rack in place and won't float (will the rack float without weight?). I've got to add more wire ties to keep it all locked in place better. But it turned out pretty good I think.

looks cool. That is simular to what we were thinking about making for our tank. Putting rock under it is a good idea. We have a bunch of black pond tuff stuff left from another project that I want Don to cover ours with to make it have some texture. (he does not know this yet)

Nice, Steve! I'm glad you're staying around and can't kick the habit, bro. ;)

I agree with Matt. The eggcrate won't float, but the bottom shelf is a good idea to keep it in place.

Keep us updated!

Rhett, just now seen your post. I do wanna make arrangments to get that stand.

I've been messin' with the tank some today tryin' to get some stuff out. I've got alot more kenya trees I need to pull. Only problem is, 1 or 2 stalks will be connected to 2 or 3 rocks. I took a break for the rest of the day as I didn't wanna bug my fish too much.

This is what I got done so far. Still gonna add some more live rock to go between then rack. I might try and get a 30 long or 40 breeder for more room. Also the PC lights are just temporary til my new t5 bulbs come in.

Waitin' on frag plugs to mount the blue digis (they look brown, but have been gettin' rubbed by the kenya trees, I'm hopin' they get their color back. Everything else in the main tank has perfect color. The purple caps, green digis, green birdsnest, etc.

Steve

I'm hopin' AC can use some Kenya trees. They took some before.

You didn't have trouble with the crate floating... mine always has without some weight on it. Not a lot, but at least a few plugs to hold things down pretty solidly.

No, the rack didn't float. The power head would make it move a little but once I put 1 of the kenya tree rocks on the bottom, it's stable now.

The original plan was to make a bottom floor inside the rack to put rock on to hold it in place but I didn't wanna go buy another sheet of the egg crate just for that.

It worked out good and at least now I don't have the frag racks hangin' inside my main tank.

I hear ya on the frag racks... I'd like to get mine out of my tank eventually, too. I'm gonna need more space first, though... specifically, a house. :)
