Setting up a 120?

Newbie here.:wavehand: I have a 40B up and running but getting ready to switch everything over to the 120. My question is how should I go about it? I was thinking of taking all the sand from the 40b and put it in the Fuge (I have new sand for the 120). I also have a bunch of extra rock (150 lbs. of cycled rock) in separate tank ready for the switch over. Will my new tank see much of a cycle? Here are a few pictures of the 40B. Thanks in advance.

Hi,I made a move from 65gal.to 120 this summer.I used new sand and only put a little of old sand to seed it.Moved most of LR and added more that was cycled like yours, and I did not have any cycle in my tank,everything went very smooth.Only thing I did after I put new sand in I waited couple days before putting corals in tank,new sand usually causes Alk to dip a little.After two days I adjusted Alk and my corals went in, no problems after that.Did not lose one coral or fish. Cool thanks, I forgot to mention in my first post I am changing from T5's to MH 2x250 watt plus 2x T5's, How high do I place the lights above the tank.

Moved from a 125 to 180, reusing all the rock and water plus several new pieces or rock and probably 60-80 gallons of fresh saltwater to fill the new tank and bigger sump. I added enough sand to create some drifts against the rocks and have some algae growing on top of that right now but otherwise I had no problems with getting fish or corals acclimated.

For the lights, height above the water is going to depend on your canopy (if you have one) or hanging kit. I built a taller canopy so that I've got good clearance under the light fixtures. It allows heat to dissipate and makes it easier to work in the tank. Assuming you're doing a 4 X 2 X 2 125 I'd hang those metal halides so that they're 8-10" above the water.
