Setting up a NEW 90 gallon...noobie seeks guidance

Hi quick question,
I can pick up a used Aqua Medic Turboflotor blue 1000 Protein Skimmer pretty cheap. I know its not as highly rated as others, but can it do the job for now and I can upgrade in the future?

In all honesty, you probably do not need a protein skimmer for the first several weeks/months. You won't have anything doing #2 in it for the skimmer to suck out. I have a 90g that has been up for 6 weeks. I have only had the skimmer on 2 days (after 1 day, the impeller broke, 2nd day there was a leak in the PVC I have to fix). I will start it running this weekend. However, I do not expect it to pull much out.

I am no expert, just stating my experience and guidance from my LFS. The experts here will give you sound advice. My opinion is to wait until you can get the right skimmer instead of getting the wrong one now and then getting the right one in a month or two.

I hope the RC Experts don't crucify me about the skimmer.
