Setting up a small tank

If I want to set up a small tank (Like 6 gallons) can I just take some water out of my display tank for it to avoid having to go thru a cycle or will it go thru one anyways?

if thats all that your putting in, i think it would be safe.....and using current live rock should be fine too.....however, if you decide to use "new" live and/ or live sand--than you should see a cycle.....but dont quote me on it cause im still new to all this too....so hopefully one of the veterans will chime in

If you use existing rock, sand, and water from the display you won't see any cycle, but if you use any of the above from an un-cycled system, you will see a cycle.
