setting up a sump on an aquapod

What about cutting the plastic hood much like the existing holes in the hood which are used for the cords?

Instead of using bulkheads use these...

U Shaped Return

I imagine these could hang on the tank and the holes for the could be cut in a U shape. This way the tank lid can be opened or removed without messing with the tubing.

So what am I missing? This seems WAY too easy?!?

Thinking on it more I guess that is too easy. The U pipe system would be based on a siphon which if broken would lead to main tank overflow and burning out your return pump.
