setting up a tank

I am totally new to this forum and I was curious how you set up a tank for an octopus.
How do you keep it from getting into any filtration or powerheads?
Do you put some typ of mesh over the top to keep it in?

I will do more searching on here but any pictures would be appreciated.

If you have a Home Depot around, you can buy a large roll of window screen for pretty cheap. With this you can cut small pieces to fit where you need. A rubber band or zip tie can do the trick for fixing it in place, or you can use silicone as long as the equipment is still clean and dry. With the powerheads like Maxi-jets, you can take off the strainer, place the screen over the hole, and put the strainer back on with a dab of super glue to fix it so it's not easily removed.

For my new lid I had an acrylic shop cut me a 1/4 inch thick piece to fit the top. Of course my tank is drilled with an internal overflow, so getting a lid like that with HOB equipment isn't so simple. For my tank with HOB stuff, I used the back half of the glass lids, filled in the gaps between the equipment with styrofoam boards, and used the window screen over the front half, for ventilation. I used the whole glass lids before, but heat buildup was a real issue.

New lid on drilled tank... nice and clean. Looks much better.
