Setting up an ATO in a sumples tank

I was looking at the hydor auto top off system But I am worried that my wave maker will trigger the top off system too often and flood my house.

Are there any top off systems that are designed to work in tank with wave makers?

A litermeter 3 or similar peristaltic pump set to dose the amount you evaporate will not be affected by wave makers

1st do not get the hydor ato, it operates on a temperature sensor; so sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't stop. Depending on the difference in temperature between tank and house, and when it's the same temp, who knows. You also need a steady water line for an ato to work properly.

I have the Tunze Osmolator in mine with no problems.

Don't think it will be okay with fluctuating water levels though.. Seems like a disaster.

OP, I would honestly think about getting a sump, or simply manually top off the tank. How big is it? If it's smaller than 30 gallons, you may have a problem, and the first poster, who said a peristaltic pump, is probably the best idea. Read the masterflex thread in the Equipment section, that's probably your best bet if you don't want to drop 500$ on a litermeter...

I have alternating powerheads moving my tank around and the surface turbulence doesn't bother the Osmolator.

What kind of wavemaker? Tunze wavebox? If so, mount the sensor in the middle of the tank--the water level doesn't fluctuate here.

If just pumps then all that will happen is the tunze osmoloator will be triggered a few times at low water until the lower level of your wave is at the sensor level. Then it will function as normal, only turning on when that lower waterline exposes the sensor.

In this case just mount the sensor where the tip touches the current low water mark and you will have no issue. Use the emergency float switch on the sensor magnet and you have a back up protection measure should something happen.

If you don't have enough room at the top of your tank for a little water level noise then you should lower the level a bit.
