Guys I have been out of the hobby for almost 10years. I just set up a 180gallon tank. They tank is done cycling now and I will be starting to add some fish and soft corals. But I wanted to share with you guys some of the cheap things I have found to make running my tank cheap and easy.
First:
La Crosse Alerts 926-25102-PET Aquarium Monitoring System with Wet Probe for Early Warning Alerts & Wireless mobility
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KC7GYOG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
At $50 bucks this thing monitors my room temp, humidity and tank temp. I can set it up to email or text me if any of those go beyond a range I like. I can check it on my phone anytime and it will graph the past week for me.
Second:
Iron-m WiFi Smart Power Strip Surge Protector
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0721QD57S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is a four outlet surge protector for $35. Two are set up for my lights to come on and go off when I want. (I can turn them on and off manually if I need to on my cell phone, for instance turn them off if my tank temp is getting high). I have the third timed for my refugium light. And the last is set to manual mode for my make up water pump.
Third:
Zmodo True HD Mini WiFi Wireless Wide Angle Indoor Home Video Security Camera Two-Way Audio, Cloud Service Available
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZZ4HX1K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This camera I have mounted to watch my sump and tank. For $35 I can view my tank from my cell phone from anywhere. I can visually see when the tank needs more water and can use my smart surge to power on my make up water pump, then turn it off visually when the sump is full. The best thing about this is it has amazing night vision, at night the tank looks lit even in a pitch black room.
Hope this might help some people who want a cheap ATO and way to monitor their tank for less than $150. Look forward to getting to know you guys and I will update as my tank progresses.
Nathan
