setting up new nano tank

in the new year i shall be setting up a 120 litre nano and i would like a little advice on cycling it.
i am thinking of using live sand, a large ceramic rock as center piece and some live rocks along with a little live rock rubble in the sump.
also, i may/may not use a bottle of atm colony to help things along.
my question is will there be enough die off in the rock to sustain the cycle for a while ie a week or two or should i feed with some frozen fish food or salad prawn?
do i need to run the lights and skimmer when cycling?

There probably will be enough die off, but you could always add a prawn if you're worried. Technically, you shouldn't need to run the lights if you don't want to, unless there's a coral or something on the live rock you want to keep alive. The skimmer, you shouldn't need to run.

Do you have a reference book to read? There're plenty of good books for you to look at that really help with questions.
