hey everyone so I am upgrading my tank from my 220 to a 250dd I am buying another house and I want to also start with a fresh tank. my problem is that I want to use my current 100 gallon Rubbermaid trough for the sump under the stand. the tank is 3 feet wide and the trough is around 33 inches wide I will be using 4x4s and 2x6s to build the stand so I am wondering if i would be ok to use a 2x4 to go along the top of the 4x4s to support the tank on the trim. The 2x4 will lay flat right on top of the 4x4 the reason i ask this is because this would allow me to have that extra width under the stand to fit the trough instead of sucking the 4x4s in closer so the tank will sit on the 2x6s framing the outside of the 4x4s any help would be appreciated and i am sorry if this is confusing

You could double up the flat 2x4s around the perimeter. Or use 4x4s for everything; make sure to hand select dry straight lumber.

Thanks for your input I didn't think about doubling up 2x4s but I will def hand select for straight lumber Im just trying to think of a way to get the trough to fit under the stand
