sexy shrimp reef safe?

Hello there,

I am hoping to hear from people with experience with sexy shrimp in reef tanks. I always thought they were reef safe and they had a firm place in my stock list, but I recently read a thread where they ate some zoas. Is this common or more of an exception? Zoas & Palys were also firmly in the stock list.

Thanks!

There are cases of nearly all types of crabs/shrimps developing a taste for corals in our tanks. They're always opportunistic, and even more so if they're hungry.

Sexy shrimps are usually perfectly reef safe, very fun to watch and very hardy.

I got 3 sexy shrimps. They're always hanging around my ricordea garden. I dont see them bothering anything.. I dont feed them directly either, they just grab whatever they can

I also have a group of three sexy shrimp. The mostly hang out around my flower leather soft coral (the only coral in the tank) and they do not seem to bother it. I give them each a small piece of food every night because there are not any other animals that they need to clean up for.

My sexy is awesome. Hangs out in and around my bta, usually wiggling his face and tail, not quite in time with nem, but close. Safe ime.

I don't know about everybody else"¦ But anything with the word "œsexy" is dangerous :lolspin:

I lost a couple sexy shrimp to something in my tank, and miss them dearly. I never had them cause any problems, they loved to hang around and shack their moneymakers around my frogspawn. My 2 never picked at anything(ignored zoas altogether), except maybe sharing some mysis stuck on the frogspawn, but it didn't injure the frogspawn in the taking.

I haven't replaced them yet, because I don't know what got them...so I don't want to feed it more.

I have 4 sexy shrimp in a 12g nano with some mixed corals and have never seen a problem. They hang our on favia and dendros and just do their thing. I like them a lot.

I have two that host my carpet anemone along with two anemone crabs they all seem to be very good inverts and this is coming from a guy that has 2 sexy shrimp 1 fire shrimp 1 cleaner shrimp 1 boxer shrimp and 6 peppermint shrimp in a 72 bow they all get along. I'm going to add 4 more sexy to host my RBTA GBTA BTA if it gets out of control then I'll add then to my 6.5 Fluval Edge RR where I'm planning to adding 4 sexy shrimp 4 Pom pom Crabs and 2 Zebra thorn crab very cool little crab they host Urchin's. I was told from a few people that it really doesn't matter how many invert you add to your tank as long as the system has enough food to sub-stain them all.
