Shallower than 24" ???

Anyone have 200+ gallon tanks that are shallower than 24"? I'm wondering what 96x30x18 or 96x30x22 might look like. Something that shallow would make life easier for me, as I'm only 5'1" tall.

I just bought a 16" tall ~220... I'll let you know how it works out in a little while :)

I wouldn't go 16". I know I don't like that look. (no offense...to each his own)

I'm leaning toward the 20-22" range.

I'd prefer 22" for sure, but I got a deal on the tank, it was supposed to be a display in one of the LFS but they never set it up. It's a 5' diameter round tank. I think I'll be ok with how shallow it is just because it's so unique, my big concern is putting a little sand in there.

Amanda, does everything HAVE to be located under the tank (equipment wise)?

If not, I would still go for 22-24" range high tank, and have a real short stand.

Even if you have to locate the equipment below the tank you could opt to use only "low-profile" equipment, except maybe the skimmer might have to be located outside the stand.

I just had a custom 72" x 36" x 20" built. I really like the dimensions. Tall enough but not too high so I can reach the bottom without getting my T-shirt sleeve wet.

After a lot of looking and thinking, I'm going with a 120x36x20 glass tank (don't think I'd go much smaller than 20)-- i like the idea of a long space for fish to swim and islands of coral, easy to perform maintenance on. Obviously, it's all personal preference, but something different is always more fun IMHO.

Good luck!

The stand height doesn't matter. I use a ladder. LOL My arm length from underarm to the tip of my middle finger is 19." I currently have a 30" tall tank. I have had a couple of 22" tanks and a 24" tank. I've always been able to get high enough that all that matters is my arm length. :)

I would start contacting manufactures like AGE, Envisions, Perfecto, etc... and see what they will build for you. I would think with the economy like it is, that maybe a deal could be had.
