Sharing my attempt at a Multicolor Trio

Evening All,

Thought I would share my current progress on a new project.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up three juvenile Multicolor Angels from LA (not DD). 2 are about 1.25" and the third a bit bigger at just shy of 1.75". They are currently in QT and will be there for at least a couple of months while they settle in, eat well, and in general are ready to go into a 220g tank.

The first 4-5 days there was some aggression from the larger fish towards the other 2, but that seems to have subsided. Obviously the goal is that the larger one will become the male and the trio would be established.

They are eating Nutramar ova, and cyclopeeze very well. 2 of them eat brine and mysis fairly well and all three will eat some flake finely ground up.

Here are some pics and I will keep it updated hopefully with a good outcome. one question for the fish pairing gurus.....

At what point can you safely say that a sex change has happened to the dominant fish? After what period of time if they are living together peacefully might you be able to say they have actually become a harem?

Here are some pics!

So, how are the little guys doing?

I've been thinking about getting two myself, been watching them now for a couple of weeks.

I'm pondering adding two or three to my system. I'll be following your progress. They are IMO one of the most colorful dwarfs.

I've had great success with C. multifasciatus and C. aurinatus this same way. My trios have been in my tanks for about three years now (the multifasciatus are in the SPS tank) and they've done well. C. multicolor was to be the next in but the wife vetoed that idea after I bought a pair of Anampses lennardi.

LOL. Good luck!
