I know I am going to be flamed for this so lets get it started.

Timeline:

Ordered zoa frag on October 15.

We were supposed to meet at their current location on Saturday Oct. 28 or Sunday October 29.

They cancelled on Saturday because of a tank that was leaking, that's fine.

We planned to meet at the new warehouse on Wendsday night (Not this last Wendsday, the one before).

Anita said that she would call me when she was leaving her house, I would leave mine at the same time and meet her there.
She called at 9 P.M. and said that she "lost my number and didn't know which frag was mine when she got there because there isn't a computer there yet. She was "supposed" to call me BEFORE she left her house, not when she got there. So there is an evening wasted waiting for a phone call.

During the same call she said that she would call Sunday (This last Sunday) sometime around Mid day when she was there and I could stop by. No call.

This Thursday I am sick of waiting. I have already been lied to at least once, jerked around 3 times and wasted a weekday evening and a Sunday waiting for calls that never happened. I send an e-mail asking for the cost of the frag to be refunded to my credit card. I wasn't a jerk in my e-mail or anything.
I planned on stopping in later when the shop was open to buy a similar frag in person.

She replies that if I want a credit that's fine but there is a 6% fee on refunds.
She also says "I assumed you were going to call me in the afternoon to stop by." That is flat out not what was discussed on the phone. If it was you can bet I would have called.

So my question is what is more valuable? A customer who has spent $651.36 in 5 months or 6% of $35?

Look at my order history (This doesn't even include the things I've paid cash for when I've been there):

So there you have it. I am dying to get their side of this.

Hope they get lots of new business with the new store, they will need it if they keep this up.

Plus check out my $65 Blue Tonga Mushroom.

Pretty sweet right.
So I ordered this online when I saw it in a member preview a little over a month ago. Went to pick it up and I usually ask Anita to bag my corals ahead of time so I'm not there long, I realize they are busy and tried to make my visits quick and painless. This was already bagged up and when she showed it to me she said that "It's stressed right now". This thing is GHOST white. I have seen whiteout that isn't this white. The picture on the website was taken when it first got there and they bleached it under their lights and still sold it to me. Real nice.

And you know what kills me with this. All the stuff I bought from them was for a 24 gallon Nano and I am just set up a second tank this week. Lots of business down the drain.
Can't wait to check out Oceans Floor to stock my new tank.

Ever heard of getting your 2 cents in?
This is me getting my 6% of $35 in.

Thanks Paininthewrasse,

If they want to make it right I'll see a full refund :)

Will I ever go there again? No, but at least I won't be so mad over the pettiness of 6% of $35.00

Colin, I agree with paininthewrasse.... From what I've learned over the past two years, Dennis and Anita would never purposely lie or cheat anyone. That being said, it does seem as though they've got way too much going right now with setting up the new store! :(

I would recommend that you speak to Dennis and tell him of your issues, so he can make it right for you.

From my point of view, it should be worth it to get a full credit for the bad mushroom plus the frag that never got to you plus some aggravation dollars..... To be used at the new store once it opens!

I hope they make it up to you soon!

Boyd

Hi Boyd,

Agreed with them being swamped, I've seen it firsthand. That is why I didn't even care that 3 meeting were cancelled. I was planning on stopping by for the Grand Opening (whenever it is) and getting the zoa then since it's one that they have a few frags of. And I'm like 15 minutes away, they could call and say "Dude come get your frag" anytime and I would have made the long journey to pick it up.
It's the 6% that bugs me.

I don't know about the mushrooms, I have them in my Nano right now and plan on putting them in my new setup (A 20 gallon High with a 106 Watt PC light fixture) hoping they would get their color back. They look today the same as when I brought them home.

Does anyone know if shrooms can get their color back? These were dark blue in the first picture, I'll try to get another picture tonight of them. Open to any suggestions on these.

My buddy Todd was over on Wendsday and he saw them and said "What's that mushroom looking thing?" I told him they were mushrooms :)

For what it's worth I have never had a problem with them before and sent plenty of people their way. I never thought I would have to write what I did but after the last e-mail I got I wasn't going to get my way otherwise.

Colin,
I have had SEVERE contact issues with them for the last month. They seemed like nice people, but my emails and calls were never getting answered. I emailed them 3x about a coral I bought it took 13 days for a response and my question wasn't answered. I was beyond frustrated. I learned my lesson and haven't spenta cent there since.

That is crummy Drew,

We'll have to meet up at OF when I'm ready to stock my new setup :)
Can you believe I've never been there. Never had a need to until now.

DAMMMMMNNNNn you are missing out. Get your butt out there. I'll meet up with you anytime and go or meet you ther. I usually get stuck there for a hour at least.

Colin he has some great LPS and softies. He has some of the best brain selection I have ever seen. He also has alot of nice looking zoas. I have seen several nice toadstools thee too. it's well worth the drive.

I have been having probs w/my hrooms bleaching. So far still white... waiting to see what happens after upgrading to T5 & a better tank. Not sure what's going on w/them.

Heard back from Anita, got a very rude reply. I guess everything is my fault. How dare I order something and expect to be able to pick it up within a month :)

She is refunding the cost of the zoa so I'm done with them.

colinadam ... If you're looking for GSP and Kenya tree, i got both :)

Also how are the Eagle Eyes looking? Do they glow like crazy under your moonlights?

Wow you where quite a fan of them in other threads. It's a shame they lost a long standing customer.

Colin,

I'm sorry you got burned. You are the one who turned me unto them. I hope they make it right.

Tom

Hey Rob and Tom,

Long time no chat, hope everything is good.

No ill will towards Sharkys. I actually hope they have a great store, the area needs more reefers.

I've known Anita and Dennis a long time and have NEVER had a problem with them or their livestock and corals. I can't even imagine the logistics of moving hundreds of corals, zoas, fish, inverts etc. while trying to keep track of everything, taking care of their business and doing most of the work of setting up the new shop themselves. Not to mention raising 2 very sweet and active little boys. That's why the website stated that pick-ups would be limited until things were sorted out. If you've been to the work in progress of the new shop you know how daunting a task it can be and the pressure involved of getting everything done, while still keeping lots of corals healthy and colorful. Anita forgot to call you Sunday...with all she has on her mind right now I'm surprised she can even remember her name. Lots of hard feelings could have been avoided if you just would have called her. You can't let one unintentional mistake ruin the whole ballgame...if we did there'd be no Cubs fans.....(just kidding you die hards!)

And just to be an informed consumer and because I've run a business, when you sign a contract with a credit card company it states that the seller will pay for a cancelled transaction. It can be from 6% to as high as 12%. Check out Best Buy on-line...last time I looked their policy stated a 15% restocking fee for items returned...less shipping and handling...do you think that's for putting the box back on the shelf!!

Although I no longer have my tanks, I get to enjoy them at my doctor's office and I am proud to say I sent him to Sharky's Reef and he was VERY HAPPY with everything and I will continue to send people their way. When the dust settles I sure it will be as great as ever...
