Shaving brush sprouts?

Hi.

I have some shaving brush plants i got recently and there seem to be some spongy spike coming out of the ground in a straight line away from it. I think they are sprouts, which would be neat because i only have 18 watts of fluorescent light over my 10 gallon and i heard they were a mid-high light plant. pics:

Also I got this plant in the algae pack I don't know what it is. It looks really calcerous and high care/light to me. It has dropped a few pieces but they may be from the stress of shipping.

And one last thing; this is a type of shaving brush right? I'm pretty sure it is but I don't have too much experience with macros.

Thanks!

Yes, it looks as if your shaving brush is shooting runners. The second plant is halimeda. You might try increasing your wattage and use pc's or t-5's

Sadly not an option ATM. I have been recording the growth with a camera. they are getting bigger and fuller (less sponge looking) it also appears another one has sprouted a runner too. Macros can be very neat :) they are growing faster than my corals (though my paly polyps have finally started budding after a year lol. they went from adding 2 polyps a year to multiplying!)

My shaving brush i just got a motnh or so ago have been multiplying like mad...It makes me soo happy i actually have somthing thats cool and making more of itself...Good luck with both macros!

That sounds cool! I hope mine takes off. I'm surprised more people wouldn't have these in there display tank! They absorb nutrients, are invasive (won't root into and kill your corals like caulerpa) and look good. Oh well, just makes mine look more original!

I played with this picture using gimp photo editing. I did a horrible attempt at removing some cyano and making it look like I hadn't. Didn't work very well. I also gave myself a sexy shrimp and tried to sharpen up the shaving brushes, as well as make the background sand look more normal.

Here is the original, unedited

How do you think I did? lol this was my first time using it. You may notice a new sprout behind the other two. It is coming from a different plant, but it looks like the same species. The sprouts come out totally different however! I thought that was neat.

So i was gone for a week and this is what happens!

Because of my lack of fish I no longer do water changes. I only top off and occasionally throw in algae pellets or phytoplankton. So far everything seems fine. my last water change was over a month ago. Unfortunately I have to move the tank downstairs today. I'm going to try to do it w/o disturbing the sand bed....
