The air trapped in the injection chamber is normal.
Your outflow looks good. If you experience gas buildup in the top of the gas/water separator, place the entire assembly above the top of the reactor. The blue line acts as a siphon, causing a tiny bit of negative pressure (the water level wishes to seek the lower level, in this case, the bottom of your blue exit line). In order to defeat this siphon, the outflow pipe is placed slightly above the top of the reactor, causing a *small* amount of pressure in the reactor. Enough to effectively displace the gas accumulation at the top of the reactor.
In the schuran manual, they recommend running the return line in to an "open pipe" which is exactly what you've done. Looks good.
Of course, using a peri pump, the position of my output line doesn't matter, so mine runs directly in to my sump, 1" above the outflow from my skimmer. Not a very exciting picture
