one of my horses is trying to eat its really sad beacause the ghost shrimp are too big for her snout she gets one on occassion but we really need her to start eating frozen smaller foods how do we get her to do this. my two other seahorses are hunters for sure but she just waits for it to come to her

I'm confused. If the ghost shrimp are too big....then you need to find smaller ones or an alternate live food source. Don't just let her go hungry because you're supplying the wrong size food.

Some horses never switch from live to frozen, so I'd suggest you start searching for a smaller food source online or at different stores in your area.

If you can't find smaller ghost shrimp, then enriched adult brine shrimp would at least get her a bit of nutrition until you can find a suitable food source.

Try this company as a source for appropriately sized live food while you try to train to frozen.

The guy farms shrimp as well as being a seahorse enthusiast.

Unfortunately when I had a problem with one of my horses eating frozen I did not have ready access to appropriate live food. I lost my horse.

As far as training, try offering live once a day and frozen once a day. I hope others with more experience will chime in here with suggestions as well.

Lastly, this is why many folks here strongly advise buying captive bred horses. They are aclimed to captive living and already eat frozen foods. Though they are more expensive they are a much better buy because the likelyhood of survival in your tank is so so much higher. Sorry if this sounds like a lecture, I am writing this as much for others new to seahorses who might read this thread as I am for you.

Good luck with your efforts to train your horse onto frozen.
