Shhhh! I'm hunting aptasia....

As well as I grow them, I don't know why I hunt and kill them... Compared to any other coral or anemone, I've got aptasia rearing down to a science!

I have a 165 with a a few LPS and softies, a couple small SPS frags. My other tank (a small 29 gallon) I eradicated them with some Berghia, but that just isn't financially feasible with the 165. I'm still kicking myself for moving a frag from the 29 to the 165, even though I checked it really well for any aptasia, I guess I didn't check well enough!

I would like to add a few peppermint shrimp, just don't know if they would be on the menu. My other occupants are a large canary Blenny, Firefish, Bicolor blenny, 3 O. Clowns with a RBTA, a large pajama cardinal . I realize they are hit or miss, but I am losing the weekly Aptasia X battle right now...

Anyone you see that would contradict some peppermint shrimp?

John I think there was a file fish that was passed around at sometime I'm not sure if it's still out there. Iv come to the conclusion I have to deal with a few and exhausted trying to completely erradicate them good luck

John, you should be safe with that fish list. I would get 5-6. I always had good luck with them, but now I can't add any as my flame hawk or wrasses don't give them enough time to get all the aiptasia. I might look into a filefish.

My last Aiptasia issue I had I got an adult Copperband Butterfly and ate them very quickly. The CBB still hunts for them and the tank has been aiptasia fee

I've thought about them, the tank is big enough, I just am not sure how successful I would be in keeping one. I do have a couple of featherdusters that my wife really likes, and an RBTA, both of which I have heard are favorite CBB targets.

Just haven't filled out my tank fish list yet, as I basically have low-maintenance fish so far...

John

I don't have any feather dusters but I do have a large RBTA and the CBB doesn't even look at it. With all the animals that eat aiptasia it is hit and miss with the solutions. I did try Peppermint shrimp this past time and they had no effect

The CBB eats well, mostly Mysis and LRS that I feed the other fish
