Shimming breeding rack

I have a steel breeding rack in my garage and the garage naturally slopes with a decent gradient. Can I use regular shims? What's max height on a shim?

I used composite shims to level both my 250DD's as well as my QT/Frag rack system. Wood shims may deteriorate over time, especially in a garage on a concrete floor.

I do not have any scientific basis for this, but I would feel uncomfortable using more than one shim to level a stand. If you need two or more shims to achieve a level condition, then you may want to consider some other options. Just IMO.

What would be another solution?

How far are you out of level? Garages can slope quite a bit and shims can be a PIA if you need a big stack.

Putting wood directly on concrete is a bad idea. Even without the tanks there will be moisture.

It's much easier and cheaper to level the stand than to make the floor level.

I agree. I can't use the leveling compound; the rack is already setup. I have composite shims; will they hold up to all that weight? The rack is powdercoated steel.

I have had composite shims under my DT's, as well as my frag rack, for more than 2 years. All sit on a concrete floor and the shims are fine.
