Shipping a large tank?

Does anyone have any experience building a crate and shipping a large tank themselves? I am trying to sell my 220 gallon (60" x 48" x 20") glass tank but no one is biting locally. I am afraid to build a crate and ship it myself. Plus the work involved in doing so might become more than its worth. But if I could wrap my head around what all it will involve I might consider it.

Any advice from experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

RW

I would take it to a local co. that ships items like this. They will know how to crate it and how much it will cost. Make sure to buy insurance incase of damage.

Had my 500g glass tank shipped from OH to VA using a shipping company and they did a outstanding job with everything except the cost:)

Do you remeber what company you used? And/or how you found them? Did they pick it up from your house or did you have to deliver it to thier facility for them to crate it?

Freighters and Craters. Found them doing a web search. Awesome customer service and quality work. They picked it up from a fellow reefers house and delivered it to my house.

Depending on where it needs to go, you might even check some of the smaller 'hotshot' delivery people. I've done a few deliveries of things like engine blocks and such as side jobs, and could beat most shipping companies prices pretty easily. Their are alot of people who deliver stuff all over the country and if time isn't a factor and they can put it in with another run it might not cost much as a 5' tank goes in the back of a pick up pulling a trailer pretty easily.. Unfortunetly I'm on the wrong side of the country from you.
