Shipping corals...I have a question?

I am shipping 25 different SPS coral frags to someone in Ohio. I have box with styro from an old coral order that I will be using. My question is, how many heat packs should I use? I am sending it from Florida to Ohio and the low tempurature tonight will be 45 degrees. I am using the "Grabber Mycoal" 20 hour heat packs. The average temp is 130 degrees for these heat packs. I was thinking of using at least 2 but I will use more if it would be better. Can you use too many (4 or 5 maybe)? Can it get too warm in the box?

One last thing... I will also be adding oxygen to the bags. I was told not to fill them tight because they could explode from the pressure change in the airplane. Corals will be shipped via UPS overnight 10:30 am guaranteed delivery. Any advise would be great. Thanks!

Hello,

I would put Two heat packs in the Styro cooler. That is what we ship with to our customers. You are also corect about not filling the bag up with too much oxygen. The pressure could cause it to leak or pop. We do wrap our heat pack in newspaper and tape it to the top lid so it does not fall between bags and cause a problem.

Kindly,

Thanks so much for your help. Do you have a method to figuring out how many heat packs to use or do you just mainly use 2? This box measures 19" X 16" X 15" and will be full of frags n' bags.
