shocking development

had my hands in my tank and when my elbow touched my light fixture I got a shock. Why and how to fix this?

It probably isn't much of a problem as long as the light doesn't touch the water. You do want a ground probe though just in case. My refugium light fell in my sump a month ago and my fish did fine. My probe is in the actual display tank.

....mine does the same thing. I just unplug it, or move it where I am not likely to touch it. Electricity and water do not mix well. Probably should unplug everything when you put your hand in the water...like heaters, etc.

Sounds like your light fixture is not properly grounded. If you are getting shocked by it, unplug it before putting your hands in the tank from now on, or get the light repaired so it doesn't do that anymore.
