Short and sweet, my 24 gallon nano

just got to this thread and after 12 pages of reading (and extending my lunch break way too long) I can say your tank is really awesome.

I started a 24G nanocube also, about the same date as you but I'm still with only liverock and sand in it, your progression is insane (I know you're not a begginer like me).

so with the open hood you add 1/2 to 1 gallon of fresh water each day? can't you get a ATO or something? 1 gallon each day is a lot of water to add, no?

Regards,
Etienne

I lose on average half a gallon of water a day. I wish I had an auto top off, but the tank is in my kitchen and I walk by it constantly, so really, it's no big deal to fill up. And I don't fill it everyday, I fill everyother day.

I'm really having a problem with all this daylight hitting the tank and causing the algae on the glass. It's really annoying. I'm scrubbing down the glass today with a srubbing pad because the paper towel isn't cutting it.

Mary and RJ, how are the tanks coming? Any new pics to share?

Amanda

I need to get a new full shot, Have a GREAT DAY :)

Lookin awesome RJ, and I think I even see a little lavender in those lavender shrooms!

I need to scrub my glass, and I keep getting side tracked from doing it, ugh.

Well, I have bad news and good news. The bad news, my royal gramma was murdered. I say murdered because this is the 2nd RG I have gone through since th estart up of the tank, and only the RG is affected. All other inverts and fish are fine! Something in my tank has killed 2 RG! And I have no clue because the first one was killed when I only had just the 2 clowns and the RG, the 2nd one was ust a couple day s ago, and I just don't get it. It's something at night because I remember seeing the RG before bed and in the morning, the crabs were having a feast on it.

The good news is I have a million + pods! That chaeto in th efuge is so filled with copepods it's almost gross looking. Littl ebugs everywhere! There are also a million amphipods too. Same thin in the main tank. Copepods all over the glass. Mysid everywhere too. So, I'm thinking since my RG is toast, and the YWG is still MIA again, I'll get a mandarin. No flaming please, I have successfully kept 2( a mated pair) before that were wild caught and only eating live food and converted to frozen mysid. The question is, which mandarin to get. I have had both before. In fact, in this very tank I had a green spotted before, with the sea horses. But he pair I had were the red mandarin. So anyone want to vote?

Green Mandarin or red mandarin?

Oh WAIT. I don't think I CAN get a mandarin, I have the anemone!!!!! I don't know. Does anyone know if I can keep an anemone with a mandarin? They are soooooo slow.

Amanda, sorry to hear about your gramma. Sounds a little fishy, but I don't think a certain critter in your tank feeds on RG alone... so maybe it is just ironic?

You can always send me a little bag of pods my way.... my tank seems to be taking its time on pods right now.

I had 3 Anemones in the 85 at one time with my Mandarin and no problems at all. They know to stay away :) Now I only have the one Large Seabae in there and it is Large. So you should be fine. Do you still feed DT's to help populate your pods?

HUGE LTA and two mandarins...no problemo. ;)

OK, cool! Thanks for reassuring me everyone! I dose DT's and DT's oyster eggs every other day. The pods are unreal, I"m not kidding, it's almost scary there are so many! I need more chaeto because there are so many pods, th echaeto doesn't cover them anymore, more pods than chaeto! Any how, Any suggestions on which mandarin to get?

I love my target manderin and if you ever get flatworms they may be helpful - I had flatworms and they are gone now - not exactly sure how much of a role he played but they are gone - I have a feeling he got the real little ones......keeping then from growing up and reproducing

Mandarin's are slow, so if something is getting to your RG while it is sleeping or hiding in the LR at night, then your Mandarin would not have much of a chance to get away being as slow as they are.
