Should a clam be opened or closed at night?

If the clam is open at night does that mean not enough light?

o.k, was worried there for a minute. Thought it might be trying to get light at night. It's not GAPING open, but it's not closed.

gaping is when its incurrent syphon is wide open and or loss of control of the adductor muscle (the clam cant stick it's mantle out past it's shell)dont worry from what u discribed ur clam is fine

I always thought gaping ment the clam was fully extended with lips over the shell and big in current hole
